Real-World Experiences ~Introducing the Calendar
Children love to understand the world around them, and by using real-life applications, teachers foster meaning. Children should encounter meaningful learning situations that offer exceptional quests (Jechura et al., 2016). Focusing on the calendar teaches relevant information that applies to daily life.
- Children will utilize calendar details to remember months, days, years, and seasons.
- Practicing and grasping the months, days, and years will offer methods to stay current and learn the procedure of first, then, and next.
When teaching days of the week, use catchy songs to hear music and rhythm to boost memory. Style the days of the week with colors or shapes to integrate mathematics while counting and including patterns. These actions will incite curiosity and help with memory. Be mindful to integrate the various domains to expand the curriculum content to meet the needs of all children (NAEYC, 2020).
- Reviewing and counting each day of the week allows children to identify and name numerals, understand the last number represents the objects counted, and recognize various shapes and colors within patterns (ODE, 2020).
- Children will learn that the days are displayed and read from left to right to imitate reading books.
